One Response to “Episode 049 – Acts of Sacrifice”

    [Spoilers for Hunter, Prey]

Why yes, that is another person from someone’s past arriving on the station. I hope the ambassadors are starting to find this comfortingly familiar, like an old blanket.

I always used to think that I liked season 2 the best, and that it was better than season 1. But what I’m discovering as I listen to your podcast is that, on an episode-by-episode basis, that’s not necessarily true. Season 2, may even have more episodes that I find weak in and of themselves than season 1 does, at least up to this point.

But what season 2 definitely has over season 1 is solid development of the overall plot. Take Hunter, Prey. We’ve seen this story before (in Survivors), and it was better (in itself) when it was Garibaldi on the run through the murky world of Downbelow, because we actually cared about Garibaldi. But, unlike Survivors, Hunter, Prey connects to things larger than itself. This gives interest to what would otherwise be a pretty pedestrian runaround with at least one horribly unsubtle moment. (That would be the “Downtown” scene.)

But at this point in the season, I’m starting to feel that only The Coming of Shadows has really managed the double whammy of an excellent story combined with excellent development of the overall arc. 12 down, 10 to go…
